Recreation
Chinsegut Nature Center will conduct a Map and Compass class from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at the Nature Center located at 23212 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville. The class will be presented by Chinsegut volunteers. Since seating is limited to 30 people, reservations are required. The public is welcome. VFW Post 10209 serves breakfast, lunch and dinner as follows: From 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Sunday; from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays, with entertainment provided by Rusty & Nick (Vintage) at 8 p.m. May 23 in the Hall; soup and sandwich special at a cost of $3.99 will be offered from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday; and early bird specials will be offered from 2 to 5 p.m. Fridays at a cost of $5.95. VFW Post 8713 and Ladies Auxiliary will hold a breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday, June 8. The menu will include scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, grits or potatoes, biscuits or toast, or biscuits and gravy, juice and coffee. The donation is $5 per person, and cocktails will be available at a cost of $1 each. Also, the Post will feature Mike the Music Man at 7 p.m. every Friday. Hernando County AARP Chapter 1026 will meet Thursday, May 29, at The Cracked Egg Restaurant, 4670 Commercial Way, Spring Hill. The first speaker will be Michelle Cyr of the AARP St. Petersburg office. Cyr is program coordinator for the advocacy team, informing and mobilizing AARP efforts within the county and state. The second speaker will be Jonadab Uzoho, D.O., who will discuss the risk factors of falling, a concern for all seniors as they age. State Clubs
Illinois Club of Spring Hill will meet at 1 p.m. Friday, June 6, at Forest Oaks Lutheran Church, 8555 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. The object of the club is to promote fellowship, social and fraternal activities for former residents of Illinois. In addition to monthly meetings, activities include eating out at a local restaurant each month and group travel opportunities. Annual dues are $12 per person. Brooksville Elks Lodge 2582 holds dinner and dancing every Friday at the Lodge located at 14494 Cortez Blvd. Doors will open at 4 p.m., and dinner will be served from 5 to 6:15 p.m. Dancing will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $10 for members and $11 for guests. Aripeka Elks Lodge 2520 serves fish and french fries from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Friday. The cost is $3 per person. Also, Friday dinner is served from 5 to 8 p.m. with music from 6 to 10 p.m. Menu choices include baked or fried fish, baked chicken and the "chef's special," which includes a vegetable, potato, salad or soup, and dessert. Prices range from $8.50 to $10. Also, the Lodge holds bingo every Wednesday and Sunday at the Lodge located at 9135 Denton Ave., Hudson. Mixer dance will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. the first and third Friday of every month at the Lake Panasoffkee Community Building located on C.R. 470, one block east of Interstate 75, one-half block north of blinker light across from truck stop.
