BROOKSVILLE - The Hernando County School Board will meet Tuesday for an afternoon workshop and evening meeting.

At the 1 p.m. workshop, the board's discussion issues are expected to include:

A request to approve proceeding with the purchase of a 31-acre parcel of land in the Southern Hills area of Brooksville for a 1,000-student K-5 elementary school. The cost of the purchase would be $1.5 million, with $750,000 paid in cash and the remainder with impact fee credits.

A request for direction on whether or not to pursue negotiations on the initial asking price of $180,000 for property located at 11068 Ronda St. in Spring Hill to be used for expansion of Springstead High School's northern parking area.

A review of proposals for new, innovative programs for schools on the east side of the county. They include: a school of global studies for Brooksville Elementary School, a technical school at Eastside Elementary School, mass communication and journalism programs for Moton Elementary School and Parrott Middle School and an academy of mass communication and global studies at Hernando High School.

A recommendation to expand the district's world language program to include Brooksville Elementary School.

At the 7 p.m. meeting, the issues are primarily routine budget items, with the exception of approval of extended employment contracts for Superintendent Wayne Alexander and School Board Attorney Paul Carland. Under the revised contracts, both contracts would be extended by a year and Alexander would receive a 5.5 percent raise.

Both meetings will take place at the district's headquarters, 919 N. Broad Street in Brooksville.
