It seems that some of my neighbors here in Hernando County believe they have a "better vision." Apparently John T. Boyle and U.S. Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite have similar "visions" and a "don't ask, don't tell" philosophy — until you get caught in the act, just agree with and support the "evil doers" — oh, yes, there are "evil doers."
Trouble is, we are them as long as we condone the sins of this administration. More than 43,000 troops have been sent to Afghanistan although their medical records read "unfit to serve." Warnings issued in 2004 about faulty electrical work in showers used by our troops were ignored, and my last research shows four soldiers have died by electrocution while showering.
Bodies of some of our troops ordered to be returned to their families have instead been routed to a "pet" crematory — one more "investigation" is under way. If it was known that Ft. Bragg and other bases were unfit for occupation by our soldiers and they were "getting to it," why was there feigned surprise over the existing, uninhabitable state of these bases? Is it because they do not consider our brave soldiers worthy of decent, healthful living conditions? Are any of these soldiers your loved ones?
Let's talk about the ministers associated with the candidates for president. Sen. Barack Obama has condemned the remarks made by Rev. Jeremiah Wright and ended a long relationship with a minister who married him and Michelle and baptized their two children because of those remarks. Sen. John McCain, on the other hand, has openly pursued the support of Rev. John Hagee, his "spiritual adviser" who says God created Hurricane Katrina to punish New Orleans for its homosexual "sins." Rev. Rod Parsley, televangelist from Ohio, has called on Christians to wage war against Islam and has railed in the past against separation of church and state.
And, after supposedly condemning statements by Rev. Jerry Falwell, McCain hugged him and took money for making a speech at his ministry. If, as Republicans claim, the media is "liberal," isn't it strange that no mention is being made of this obvious, off-the-wall dialogue and its acceptance and apparent approval (see public hugging) by McCain? Please stop laughing and read on.
Brown-Waite is pushing to withhold federal dollars from "sanctuary states" at a time when all states are suffering great losses in funding to maintain their infrastructures and education, etc. I may be getting old because I can't remember a single Mexican being on the list of those who attacked us on 9/11, nor can I remember any of those terrorists sneaking into the U.S. from Mexico — they all came from Saudi Arabia with legal entry visas. Seems methods have not changed and we are being given people to fear, to blame our woes on, so we won't notice who is really causing the downfall of our people and our loss of hope for a future.
We must vote for our own best interests and not out of fear of invented demons. If you are in a small home or a mobile home and still having trouble making ends meet, don't keep voting for the guys who work to keep you there. Don't let those who are making you poor and keeping you from decent health care convince you to vote for them again.
The money spent on this act of aggression belongs here at home, helping so many of our citizens who are on the brink of financial disaster instead of making Halliburton richer. Our bridges should not be collapsing, killing our people, and our children's education should not continue to be underfunded.
I'm sure Boyle supports McCain and Brown-Waite. (McCain doesn't seem to know who is Shiite and who is Sunni and stated recently that the U.S. should pursue the "democratization" of yet more sovereign nations.) If the neocons out there do not like hearing the truth about what they are supporting, I welcome them to change their ways before Judgment Day and the reading off of their offenses against humanity and their arrogance.
In the meantime, Mr. Boyle, have a nice day!
