Atom Bomb Saved Lives

The published Rall's, Wright's and al-Qaida's views of the atomic bombing of Japan being a crime are by self-serving people who have not read/studied history or are purposely ignoring it.

It was actually the end to many Japanese atrocities. A few of many examples: The Bataan Death March, in which a classmate of mine lost her brother; Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941 in which a schoolmate of mine lost his brother; and the Burma Road forced labor and cruel experiments done on Chinese people and American servicemen.

If not dropped, not including American servicemen, many times more Japanese civilians would have been killed if World War II had continued. Odds are many thousands of the Hernando County World War II veterans, including me, who would have been in the planned invasion of Japan, would not be here today. In addition to normal warfare fighting, we would have been subject to suicide kamikaze attacks of many varieties.

World Better Under Saddam

Think about this: Shortly after Bush took office, he launched an endless war. Then, there were record numbers of fires. Not only in number but in size and devastation. After the fires came the relentless floods that continue on today - not only in the U.S. but the entire world.

Now, as I write this note, much of the world is in famine. Even the abundant grains - the basic food staples that feed hundreds of millions of the world's poorest - are quickly dwindling. What will Bush bring next? He doesn't care.

Moreover, Bush's administration has cut billions of dollars in federal programs to feed the poor, heal the poor, house the poor and educate the poor.

As in the ways and days of the inquisitions, the Dark Ages, this administration aims to keep the unfortunate, the disabled and the poor ignorant, with no means to get an education (reserved for the rich and the foreign rich). And no means to be cured of illnesses that can be treated. No way for the poor to feed their families. No way for the poor and mislead to house their families. The intention of the Dark Ages was to keep the rich in control.

Hussein maintained order and control by means horrific to the West, but he kept Iran and the two-faced Saudis in line. Also, he could account for every drop of Iraqi oil. And the barbaric methods he practiced to maintain order, were no more horrifying than the slaughter the people of the Middle East inflict upon our soldiers and one another every day.

Better Vision

If there would be anything more insipid than someone ranting against Rall, it would be someone ranting against someone ranting against Rall.

Now I confess I have railed against Rall myself in the past.

I chuckle when Democrats whine that the Hernando Today is conservative. Forget the fact that some of the writers they list I find rather liberal, when Rall is your idea of insightful reason, everything else must appear reactionary.

But let's be fair. If Hernando Today by chance leans right, Mother Trib, with its much larger audience, leaps left.

Now I'm of the belief that Rall and his local colleague, Frances Earl, persuade no one but only inspire their opposition. Numerous letters critical of them are enough evidence I should think.

However, we could only wish he's been merely making "tongue in cheek" barbs for amusement. Rall writes the way he thinks.

We know because he repeats himself often, making it hardly humorous. So, there is no need to explain away his comments. Just like the Rev. Wright, we know what he means.

We just don't share the same dreams. We know ourselves to have a better vision.
