Fitness Center To Hold Fundraiser

BROOKSVILLE - Jazzercize Fitness Center will hold a Jazzercise benefit class at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Center located at 422 Broad St.

Each participant will collect pledges prior to the event, or pay a donation at the door, which will be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Highlights of the fundraiser will include door prizes and refreshments, as well as a marathon Jazzercise class taught by Hernando County and surrounding area Jazzercise instructors. The event is open to the public, and Jazzercisers and non-Jazzercisers are encouraged to participate.

Fundraiser Dinner To Benefit 10-Year-Old With Cerebral Palsy

TAVARES - Liberty Baptist Church will host a spaghetti dinner following the 11 a.m. service on Sunday, May 18, to benefit a 10-year-old girl with cerebral palsy. The church is located at 2451 Dora Ave. (State Road 19A) in Tavares. Funds from the dinner will go toward a van with a lift for Amber Poplick, whose father, Walter Poplick, lives in Bushnell but does lawn care and landscaping work in Brooksville. Amber is a student at Lake Hills School for the Handicapped in Eustis.

Experience Works Recruits Workers
Experience Works is currently recruiting unemployed individuals 55 and older with limited income who want to learn new skills, gain job experience and ultimately work full time or part time in their local communities. May is Older Americans Month, and this year's theme is "Working Together for Strong, Healthy and Supportive Communities." Through the Senior Community Service Employment Program, Experience Works collaborates with nonprofit organizations and community service agencies to provide paid work experience, temporary training, and job placement services to seniors in local communities.

NAMI Hernando Seeking Volunteers

National Alliance On Mental Illness/NAMI Hernando is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization whose mission statement is to promote mental health awareness in the community through education, support, advocacy and outreach while improving the quality of life toward recovery for all who are living with mental illness, their families and their supporters. NAMI Hernando speakers group is available to church ministries, civic groups, including military veterans and their families, senior citizen groups and parent teacher associations. Speakers offer insight of what NAMI Hernando is all about.

NAMI Hernando is seeking volunteers as follows:

Professional with knowledge of bi-polar disorder to act as a facilitator for a bi-polar support group;

Person with marketing knowledge to help launch and organize fundraising and other community events;

Parent of adolescent with mental illness to become a trained teacher for adolescent family-to-family education classes;

Education Committee seeking churches, halls, hospitals, or any large conference room to hold the educational classes that NAMI offers.

Arts and crafts instructor needed for two afternoons per month.

Outreach Center Offers Support And Education

SPRING HILL - Beautiful Mind Outreach Center, 10554 Spring Hill Drive, in the Brothers I and II Plaza, is a self-help rehabilitation and recreation center which helps those with a mental illness help themselves and also offers support and education to their families. The Center provides support groups, education groups, friendship groups, bingo, arts and crafts, computer classes, bowling, scrapbooking, guest speakers, social activities and more.

Overeaters Anonymous Announces Meetings

Overeaters Anonymous holds meetings in Hernando County for anyone who is suffering from compulsive overeating, food addictions, anorexia or bulimia. The 12-step program is held as follows:

From 1 to 2 p.m. every Friday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in the Coulton Building of the church located at 2301 Deltona Blvd., Spring Hill. From 7 to 8 p.m. every Wednesday at Spring Hill Health & Rehab Center in the conference room of the center located at 12170 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill.

Cancer Institute To Hold Support Group

SPRING HILL - The Florida Cancer Institute holds its Leukemia/Lymphoma Support Group meeting from 5 to 6:30 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Florida Cancer Institute's Spring Hill Center, 10441 Quality Drive, Suite 203, in the Medical Arts Building next to Spring Hill Regional Hospital.

Topics that are frequently discussed are: Importance of early detection, signs and symptoms of leukemia-lymphoma, prognosis, disease stages, the various treatment options, and especially the latest research and treatment modalities.

Celebrate Recovery Program Offered At Three Local Churches

Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered 12-step program that offers healing for addictive behaviors, hang-ups and hurts.

An open invitation to the program is extended from three churches, and child care will be available at each session.

The churches offering the program are as follows:

Christian Church in the Wildwood, 10051 Country Road, Weeki Wachee, holds worship and large group at 7 p.m. Fridays. Men's and women's discussion groups are offered. For information, call 352-596-1388.

First Baptist Church, 7279 Pinehurst Drive, Spring Hill, holds worship service and large group at 7 p.m. Fridays. Men's and women's 12-step program meets at 7 p.m. Mondays.

SPRING HILL - Loved & Remembered Support Group is a new support group that will meet at 7 p.m. Fridays at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 5030 Mariner Blvd. The group is open to all parents who have lost sons and daughters due to any cause at any age.
