BROOKSVILLE - Local art lovers will crowd Tom Varn Park this weekend to check out some of the area's best homemade jewelry, paintings and wood carvings.
Judges will select the best fine arts and crafts Saturday, but people will be able to see, touch and buy their favorites anytime during the two-day festival.
The 24th Annual Art in the Park will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 3, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 4.
The event also will feature live music. Artists will perform oldies, jazz, country, contemporary pop and classical.
The Hernando Youth Orchestra will perform at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Food vendors will sell everything from frozen coffee drinks and Italian ice to Philly cheesesteaks and French fries.
Admission/parking are free.
The art on display will include watercolors, graphics, oil paintings, photograph, ink drawings and fine crafts.
Last year, there were artists who made animal sculptures out of tree wood and others who turned simulated wood board into square-shaped clocks. A similar variety is expected this year.
Tom Varn Park is located at 306 Darby Lane.
Sponsors will include Hernando Today, The Tampa Tribune, TBO.com, NewsChannel 8, Chick-fil-A, Dunkin' Donuts, Joni Industries, Publix, AAA, Sweetbay Supermarkets and the City of Brooksville.
The event is being presented by the Hernando County Fine Arts Council.
