Freedom Fest 2008 will be held Thursday, July 3, from 4 p.m. until dark at Florida Classic Park at 5360 Lockhart Road, Brooksville. The event will feature Christian artist Rob Taylor, a former offensive lineman for the Tampa Bay Bucs. There will be a talent show, Joy FM (88.1 and 91.5), family friendly games, food and music and a fireworks display sponsored by the Brooksville Ministerial Association in partnership with Trivent Financial for Lutherans.
The Masaryktown Support the Troops Dance will be held Friday, July 4, from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Community Hall on Lincoln Avenue. Music will be performed by Vintage. There will be hot dogs and a full bar. The cover charge is $5 per person; tickets will be available at the door, and you must be 21 or older. Active military and spouses will be admitted free with proof of military I.D. Fifty percent of the proceeds will go to Lea's Prayers and Postage. For more information, call Niki at 352-544-1113.
On June 7, Ron and Lisa Lehman, son Lee and daughter Amanda hosted a graduation celebration for Stephen Pelaez Jr. who graduated from Nature Coast Technical High School on June 4. The party was held at the Lehman home, and the food was made by Stephen's mother and grandparents; special thanks to Homero Diaz for making Stephen's favorite dish, yellow rice with chicken and black beans. The attending family of Stephen's were his mom, Dawn, sister Casey, brother Ryan, grandparents (who made the pasta salad) Pat and VG Murray, uncle Tim and aunt Sandy Murray, their children Tim Jr., Jessie, Caitlin, Jackie, and Clifton, uncle Kevin, cousin Joan McHugh, another uncle, Deputy Scott Morris and wife Leah with their cousin Becky. Thank you, Coach Chris Clifford, for providing the blow-up slip and slide and thank you to football coach for attending. Also attending were many friends and their families. Stephen is the first person in their family to attend college and in August will be attending the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill. He will major in sports management, as he was awarded a four-year athletic scholarship. His family is proud of him and his accomplishment. Congratulations and good luck, Stephen.
Friends From Camper's Holiday sent out another 35 packages for June. They thank Jackie Gross, Rhea Parau, and Yvette Pacheco from Spring Hill for the homemade cookies and brownies that were sent to hospitals in Balad, Baghdad and Afghanistan. Last Sunday, Russell Bourdon and his son Jared joined mom/grandmom Rose Chepon and her boyfriend from Orlando. They rode in on Rose's BMW motorcycle. They enjoyed this lunch get-together at Mykonos Restaurant in Brooksville.
Congratulations to former residents, Solomon and Elaine May, on their new son. Joshua Logan May made his debut on June 16 at 9:29 a.m. in Pikeville, N.C. He weighs 8 pounds and is 20 inches long. At home babysitting 20-month-older sister, Selina Angel May, is grandma Nancy Voscinar May, Solly's mom, who came over from Kentucky. All are doing great.
Get well wishes to Provenzia Torres, who is in Brooksville Regional Hospital.
Sympathies to the family and friends of 51-year-old Ronald Forbell, who died at home on June 7. He was a lifelong resident of this area. He leaves his wife Gemma, son Damian Forbell of Brooksville, son Capt. David and his wife Christi of Bluffton, S.C., daughter Raleigh Forbell of Brooksville, daughter and son-in-law Courtney and Alex Mourtakous of Tarpon Springs, two grandchildren, his father Patsy Forbell. Services were held at First Baptist Church of Masaryktown on June 14, officiated by Pastor Robert Gant. Ronald was laid to rest at Florida Hills Memorial Gardens.
