State Clubs

Illinois Club of Spring Hill will meet at 1 p.m. Friday, June 6, at Forest Oaks Lutheran Church, 8555 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. The object of the club is to promote fellowship, social and fraternal activities for former residents of Illinois. In addition to monthly meetings, activities include eating out at a local restaurant each month and group travel opportunities. Annual dues are $12 per person. All former Illinois residents and their partners are invited to join the club or to come as a guest prior to making a decision to join. Michigan Club women will meet at noon Thursday, June 12, at Mighty Wings, 1252 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill. For more information, call Marti at 352-596-3044. New Jersey Club will meet Wednesday, June 18, at the Senior Citizens Club, 7925 Rhanbuoy Road, Spring Hill. Doors will open at 11 a.m., and the meeting will begin at 1 p.m. Funny "T" shirt contest will be featured. Pizza and soda will be served to all who purchased tickets. Recreation

Chinsegut Nature Center will conduct a Chinsegut Night Walk from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday, June 20, at the Nature Center located at 23212 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville. Seniors

Hernando County AARP Chapter 1026 invites area seniors to its June meeting, which will be a picnic at noon Tuesday, June 24, at the Nature Coast Botanical Gardens located at 1489 Parker Ave., just east of the intersection of U.S. 19 and Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill. The picnic will be catered by Honey Baked Ham Restaurant with a complete box lunch. A multi-choice menu will be available. The cost is $6 per person, paid in advance. Attendees are welcome to tour the numerous specialized gardens and at 1 p.m., Jim Moll, of the Hernando County Extension Service, will talk about gardening in Florida. Military/Veterans

VFW Post 8713 and Ladies Auxiliary will hold a breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday, June 8. The menu will include scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, grits or potatoes, biscuits or toast, or biscuits and gravy, juice and coffee. The donation is $5 per person, and cocktails will be available at a cost of $1 each. Also, the Post will feature Mike the Music Man at 7 p.m. every Friday. Karaoke will be held at 7 p.m. every Saturday; and Country Pride Band will be featured from 2 to 5 p.m. every Saturday at the Post located at 1686 E. Jefferson St., Brooksville. VFW Post 9236, 3435 Shoal Line Blvd., Hernando Beach, will offer $1 hot dogs Monday through Saturday, with beer special on Mondays; line dancing from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays; spaghetti dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays; wear a red shirt and receive discounts on beverages all day on Fridays; steak night on the second Saturday of the month, with the next on June 14. Social

Hernando Beach Club holds an "open house" Friday night dinner at the club located at 3145 Flamingo Blvd., Hernando Beach. Doors open at 5 p.m., and dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. All meals are prepared by members and include dessert at a cost of $8 to $10. Reservations are required by the Wednesday preceding the Friday night dinner of attendance. Also, the club will celebrate Fourth of July with an ole time barbecue on Friday, July 4. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at approximately 6:30 p.m. The event will be held indoors with dancing. Cyndi "The One Lady Band" will provide entertainment with favorite songs along with tributes to celebrate the Fourth of July. The cost is $10 per person for members and $12 per person for guests. Fraternal

Brooksville Elks Lodge 2582 holds dinner and dancing every Friday at the Lodge located at 14494 Cortez Blvd. Doors will open at 4 p.m., and dinner will be served from 5 to 6:15 p.m. Dancing will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $10 for members and $11 for guests. The cost for dancing only is $6 per person. Live music with ballroom and line dancing will be featured. For more information, call the Lodge at 352-596-2582.

Aripeka Elks Lodge 2520 serves fish and french fries from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Friday. The cost is $3 per person. Also, Friday dinner is served from 5 to 8 p.m. with music from 6 to 10 p.m. Menu choices include baked or fried fish, baked chicken and the "chef's special," which includes a vegetable, potato, salad or soup, and dessert. Prices range from $8.50 to $10. Also, the Lodge holds bingo every Wednesday and Sunday at the Lodge located at 9135 Denton Ave., Hudson. On Wednesdays, bingo begins at 10 a.m. A potluck is held from 3 to 6 p.m.; bring a dish. Music will be provided for dancing. On Sundays, bingo begins at 4:30 p.m. Food will be available both days. Music/Dance

Mixer dance will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. the first and third Friday of every month at the Lake Panasoffkee Community Building located on C.R. 470, one block east of Interstate 75, one-half block north of blinker light across from truck stop. Live music will be featured. The dance will be open to couples and singles, and finger food will be appreciated. The event will be sponsored by Sumter Singles.
