PORT RICHEY - The Community Aging and Retirement Services, Inc. (CARES) has a program for individuals who are experiencing early memory losses and need a proactive day program to provide social support and memory retraining skills.
The CARES Senior Moments Early Memory Loss Program offers individuals and their families opportunities to reduce the progression and challenges of potential memory disorders through earlier intervention.
Individuals with mild cognitive impairment are able to handle everyday activities but have difficulty remembering things.
They may have trouble remembering the names of people they just met, recalling information, and they tend to misplace things.
Social and educational programs specifically designed for individuals with early memory loss are an important resource that can improve their ability to remain independent and delay the progression of cognitive losses.
"Many individuals with early memory loss find it frustrating when they are not able to remember or do the tasks they were once able to do.
The Senior Moments Program offers a person who is experiencing forgetfulness that is interfering their daily living an opportunity to exercise the brain and socialize with others who are experiencing the same challenges," said Christine Powers, Director Adult Day Services.
Senior Moments sessions meet every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the CARES Phil Mishkin Administrative Center, 7505 Rottingham Road, Port Richey.
For more information or to join the program, call Christine Powers at 727-862-9291 Ext. 244.
