Library System Lists Summer Programs

Hernando County Public Library System will offer the following programs:

Summer Fun program activities: Scott Humston - Magical Storyteller, at 10:15 a.m., Tuesday, July 15, at the West Hernando Branch Library, 6335 Blackbird Ave., off State Road 50, Brooksville; and also at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, July 17, at the Main Library, 238 Howell Ave., Brooksville.

Through the use of custom music, magic, comedy, storytelling and audience involvement, children learn the importance of honesty, respect, self-esteem, cooperation and responsibility; Kid's Game Day from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at the Spring Hill Branch Library, 9220 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill. Board games and video grams such as Wii, Dance Dance Revolution, Checkers and more will be featured.

A movie will be shown at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, at the East Hernando Branch Library, 6457 Windmere Road, Brooksville. A science fiction writer decides to adopt a 6-year-old boy to complete his family after he loses his fiancee. Everything goes well until the imaginative dad becomes convinced that the boy is an alien from Mars.

The movie stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet and Joan Cusack. The movie is rated PG and runs 108 minutes. The program is free of charge, and registration is not required. Light refreshments will be provided. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hernando County.

Teen Game Day will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, July 18, at the Main Library, 238 Howell Ave., Brooksville. Rockband, Guitar Hero, Internet games and Wii games will be featured.

A drawing for an iPod Nano will be held at 4 p.m. for teens that participate in Game Day. Teens must be present to win. Teens 12 to 17 years old are invited. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hernando County.

Book discussion group will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, at the Spring Hill Branch Library, 9220 Spring Hill Drive.

The group will be discussing "The Double Bind" by Christopher Bohjalian. The crime novel is a psychological thriller and "what if" sequel to "The Great Gatsby."

Registration is not required, but copies of the book are limited. Check out a copy at the Spring Hill Library to join the informal discussion.
