Here we go again. Seaside Sanitation is looking for another raise. They just got one a little while back. With their threat, they would stop collections unless they get the increase
First of all, I don't believe the county has the right to make decisions when it comes directly out of the public's pockets. That should be our decision.
Also, as far as not collecting, just put it up for bid. With all the unemployment, I bet there will be a dozen companies applying to pick up our rubbish.
Everybody is trying to fatten their wallets, even though people are losing their homes and can't make ends meet.
All they have to do to cut expenses is to make pickup once a week. On Centralia Road this Saturday, there was only one house with rubbish out for collection. In fact, Centralia Road is like that most of the time. Not only will they save gas, but also man hours and wear and tear. But I guess it is just easier to up the fee. It always boils down to the last man standing - the taxpayer.
The fee for conducting a survey of the bus of $20,000 that entailed 11 hours of riding THE Bus comes out at approximately $1,818 an hour. I wonder whose brilliant idea that was? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. I could have ridden the bus and come up with the same results - for free no less. Easy come, easy go.
You always hear the county comparing rates and fees from other counties, especially when we are lower than neighboring counties. Did you ever hear of them comparing the impact fees to other counties? They're just a drop in the bucket compared to Hernando County. Now they want to raise those, too? They can't believe the gravy train is over. What they should do is reduce some of the huge pay days and get down to what you are paid to do. Look out for the bottom man.
One more thing - the new school we can't afford near Weeki Wachee. As I mentioned before, the county owns approximately 127 acres on Centralia Road but instead of building the school on land they already own, they shell out money to buy more land. Furthermore, when that school is built, students will have to be bussed all the way across the county. Is that a smart move? We have a large school on Elgin that is not being used to full capacity and costs taxpayers' to maintain. Put that empty school to use.
We need change.
