SPRING HILL - A teenager is suspected of leaving the scene of a crash, then running his car into a tree in his haste to get away.

Around 1 a.m. Thursday, two vehicles collided at Coronado and Spring Hill drives, but the driver of a Jeep Cherokee sped away from the scene, a report states.

The other victim in the crash dialed 911 and followed the suspect, Ryan Thomas, 17, south on Linden Drive. Thomas crashed into a 20-foot palm tree and snapped it in half on Jessica Street, but after that the victim lost sight of the Jeep, an affidavit states.

As investigators returned to the scene of the original crash, Thomas reported a hit-and-run accident from his home at 359 Forest Wood Court, a report shows. He was subsequently arrested on a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident with injury.
