Re: "One Small Step For Homeowners," Hernando Today, Jan. 17, about impact of Amendment 1.

What will it save?

"What will it save us? $240 a year, yet it will cut funding where we need it the most. What a stupid way for taxpayers to save a measly $20 a month. It is ridiculous. Get rid of the government waste; that is how you save money. I am voting 'No!'"
Portability should be retroactive to 2004

"The 'Save Our Homes' tax protection portability should include moves made since 2004. People buying homes now are getting great deals. They don't need the portability as bad as those of us who bought homes during the past few years since 2004 and paid the inflated top dollar prices. We are feeling the high taxes. My husband and I had to move from Tampa to Hernando for his job in 2006. We lost our lower taxes on our home in Tampa for higher taxes here in Hernando, even though we bought a home of equal value in Hernando. I'm all for portability, but I would have liked to see the portability date back to 2004."

Re: "Springwood Estates Reacts To Traffic Plan," Hernando Today, Jan. 17.

Springwood Estates Residents Should Pay

"Make Springwood Estates pay the $350,000. Taxpayers in the county are getting tired of paying for these elitist subdivisions, making others pay for their perks. (As in Wellington's $250,000 traffic light.) Also, if these high-and-mightys are upset about their road being a cut-through, then close off Spring Parkway at Powell. Easy to do."

Public Road Should Remain Public

"This is not a gated community; this is a public road running through Springwood Estate. I pay taxes to drive on those roads just like everyone else. Enforce the speed limit. I have no problem with that, but don't for one minute think a 'no through traffic' sign is going to change the way I drive!"

How Would You Like

It In Your Back Yard?

"First of all the $350,000 was granted by the developers as compensation for our neighborhood being disrupted by this new center. As for being able to drive anywhere you want, let's put a huge shopping center right across the street from your house and see how you react. We did not build in this spot so we could live on an interstate highway to Target. I believe that if the road will not be closed at the top, then the right-hand turn only is a great solution. Please remember that we will get a lot of the airport industrial traffic, which, if you have not looked lately, is growing very fast on the south side. How about everyone who wants to go to Anderson Snow Park?"
