A 13-year-old boy was hit by a car and seriously injured when he darted out into traffic on Deltona Boulevard to fetch a basketball that rolled into the street.
The victim, Jaylaun Uzunboylu, was flown to St. Joseph's Hospital about 7 p.m. on Thursday night. However, a hospital spokeswoman said no patient by that name was admitted Friday.
The Florida Highway Patrol placed the accident about 100 feet north of Deltona's intersection with Epic Lane, in between Forest Oaks Boulevard and Spring Hill Drive.
The teen was struck by a Honda driven by Gerardo Contreras, 44, of Brooksville. While the driver wasn't injured, a child in the Honda was taken to a local hospital for treatment of lacerations from flying glass.
No charges have been filed.
