The mystery of the missing keys - solved

Published: February 10, 2008

From time to time I have indulged in sharing personal experiences that might be of interest to pet loving readers and this is one of those times.

We all feel the signs of age in one way or another as time goes on. The little things that might ache, the exhaustion that comes too early in the evening and the little things we just can't seem to remember.

For me, it is misplacing my keys. No matter how hard I have tried not to, I always misplace my keys. I've never lost them, just couldn't remember the safe place where I left them. This has been a great topic of humor at the Humane Society as well as at home.

Several weeks ago I came home from a very busy day and dropped my briefcase at my desk along with my purse and was sure I had set my keys on my desk where I have learned that I will always see and remember them. I am very proud of this simple achievement of organized thought. It proves that senility has not set in as of yet.

When I next went for my keys to leave for work, I could not find them. I could not believe that I had not put them on my desk this time. After borrowing the extra car key I headed for work, but was still missing the sacred ring of all important keys.

After weeks of searching, I was sure it was senility after all. I would now have to go and make copies of all the keys I had 'misplaced.' Yesterday, seeing that the trash in my office was full, I decided it was time to bag it up and take it out.

Some inner warning bell prompted me to go through it first... maybe the sudden realization that I had moved it to right under my cat, Junie's place of honor on my desk. Sure enough, there were my keys. In my haste, I must have put them on the WRONG spot at the desk.

Lesson... if you are going to put your belongings in the cat's favorite resting place, you can count on them promptly being removed.
