This letter is a response to Ted Rall's "Liberal Point of View" in Friday's paper. I figured I was in for an opposing view when I started to read the article, titled "Puffing Up John McCain." Whether you agree with McCain's politics, this bleeding heart liberal has no right to disparage McCain's war record.
I don't know how old Rall is, but from his picture I doubt if he was around during the Vietnam conflict. If he was, he would probably have spent it in Canada along with all the other cowards. Or he would have been in line at airports to spit on our heroes.
In the article he has the typical "Fonda" attitude of these "baby killers." And then to add insult to injury, he downplays McCain's time in the "Hanoi Hilton," where he was brutally tortured, beaten and went without medical help for his injuries. I would venture to say that this jackass would not have lasted a week in this prison let alone five-plus years!
Until you have been in this situation you have no right to call McCain anything but a hero. I have never been called upon to serve my country and really have no idea how I would react when presented with torture of this magnitude and I thank God that I didn't. But Rall's last line really set me off where he states, "But John McCain is a weak man who puts his career goals first."
Rall, if you were here right now, I'd give you some "Puffing Up."
