Grisell Ortiz held a birthday party at her home for her youngest daughter Carmen last Saturday. The 7-year-old opted for a pizza party, and so it was. More than 10 friends and cousins enjoyed lots of pizza, cake and refreshments. Everyone had a great time.

Another birthday gal celebrated her Jan. 28 birthday last Sunday. Carolyn was treated to dinner by her daughters Kathy Anderson and Miki Bolton at Red Lobster, joined by her granddaughters 16-year-old Brianna Anderson, 9-year-old Amanda Hunt and 6-year-old Ashley Hunt. An ala mode dessert was made with a candle in it while her family and the staff sang her happy birthday. An enjoyable afternoon was had by all.

Here's an update on the clothing drive for warm clothes for children 12 and under to be sent to Afghanistan via Major Mark Evans: The cutoff date is Feb. 14, and five large boxes have already been sent with postage paid for by Lea's Prayers and Postage. Donations can be dropped off at our Masaryktown Post Office. Another group hard at work on this project was a small church in Urbana, Ohio, per Norma Evans, Becky's mother-in-law and Major Mark's mom. They collected $124 and went out and bought clothes needed. Big thanks to everyone for their efforts both near and far. These donated clothes do not need to be brand new - just in good condition. Sweatpants, warm shirts, mittens, gloves, scarves, etc. Thank you!

Mike and Dee Blaha went to the AGRItunity 2008 conference held in Bushnell at the West Central Florida Agriculture Center of Sumter County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Jan. 26. The farm show was put together by IFAS Extension agents and University of Florida. The show featured a wide range of ideas and new farm products. The special sessions were Hydroponics vegetables, organic and sustainable production, value added products and marketing and small scale poultry production. The Blahas' farm has always practiced natural and chemical, hormone and antibiotic free meat and veggies. Like Dee says "You need to always be open-minded and willing to learn something new every day." Mike and Dee are currently getting ready for the spring growing season. They have Mike's CWM 100 percent (manure) ready for customers to buy, their vertical growing system with their organic standards applied to utilize an otherwise poor pasture to a productive piece of their farm, Rabbits, Etc. The Blahas' farm sells organic vegetables when in season. People are welcome to come and tour their farm, but call ahead, as they are busy working their land.

For more details or just to make an appointment, call them at 352-796-0459 or visit their Web site at www.rabbitsetc.us. Mike tells us their fresh strawberries are now available for sale.

Get well wishes to Chuck Premorel, who was in Spring Hill Regional Hospital.
