Greyhound Walkathon to be held Feb. 2
TAMPA Greyhound Rescue & Adoptions of Tampa Bay, Inc. and Greyhound Pets of America — Tampa Bay are proud to announce the second annual Parade of Greys... a walkathon to benefit retired and rescued greyhounds.
The event will be held rain or shine and the walkathon will take place on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Al Lopez Park at Shelter # 315 and field (adjacent to the playground).
Registration begins at 11 a.m. and the Walk begins at noon. There will be food and beverages available for purchase, games, raffles, contests and merchandise.

Annual Veterans Benefit Resource Fair to be held Feb. 2
BROOKSVILLE The Annual Veterans Benefit Resource Fair, hosted by Congresswoman Ginny Brown-Waite will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb.2 at Nature Coast Technical High School, 4057 California St., Brooksville.

Woman's Club To Sponsor Doll And Bear Show
BROOKSVILLE Brooksville Woman's Club will sponsor its 5th annual Collectible Dolls, Bears & Accessories Show Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 2-3, at the Hernando County Fairgrounds, 6436 Broad St. (U.S. 41). The show will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. An appraisal person will be available for attendees to appraise their collectible dolls and bears at a cost of $2 per item, and information will also be available on doll repairs. Admission to the event is $3 for adults and children 12 and under will be admitted free of charge. Inside table rentals are available at a cost of $30 for two days. Scottish Club To Present Robert Burns Celebration
BROOKSVILLE Scottish Social Club of West Central Florida will present its annual Robert Burns Dinner Celebration at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at the American Legion Hall, 208 East Fort Dade Ave. Entertainment will include Highland dancers, bagpiping, reading of poems by Robert Burns, and the traditional Salute to the Haggis. Dinner will consist of steak and sausage pie, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, coffee, tea or iced tea, and desserts. The cost is $12 per person. American Legion Post 186 To Sponsor Memorial Service
SPRING HILL American Legion Post 186 will sponsor its annual Four Chaplains Memorial Service at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 5030 Mariner Blvd. The service will honor the four military chaplains (a Methodist minister, a Rabbi, a Catholic priest and a Lutheran minister) who were aboard the USS Dorchester when it was torpedoed on Feb. 3, 1943 during World War II. The chaplains handed out life jackets to the servicemen aboard; and when there were none left, gave up their own. The chaplains remained aboard, comforting those who were wounded and injured too severely to abandon the sinking ship. They were last seen with their arms linked, praying with the men remaining on the ship as it sank. In addition to American Legion members, local veterans, veterans organizations, the Knights of Columbus and community residents are invited to participate. The service will include speakers, a posting of the colors by various veterans organizations' color guards and will be followed by a reception in Xavier Hall of the church. High Point To Present 'Memories of Elvis' Show
BROOKSVILLE High Point Community Centre will present "The Memories of Elvis Show with Chris Olson" Saturday, Feb. 2, at the High Point Clubhouse, 12249 Clubhouse Road, off State Road 50. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m., and the show will begin at 7 p.m. Olson is an Elvis tribute artist from Minnesota. Ticket cost is $15 per person. Citrus Jazz Society to hold jam Feb. 3
HOMOSASSA SPRINGS The Citrus Jazz Society's next session will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3 at their new location, the Knights of Columbus Hall, 9020 W. Atlas Drive, Homosassa Springs.

The session will feature Jazz and Dixieland music provided by the society's local musicians, many of whom have played with well-known big bands, for your listening and dancing pleasure.
A donation of $7 per person at the door for non-members will be collected to help cover the sessions costs. Dues and renewals are $35.00 per person and available at the door.
The society can always use additional musicians for its open jam sessions and any accomplished players should contact Tony Caruso, president and music director at the February session or by calling him at 352-795-9936.

Ship Model Society o Hold Ship Display
SPRING HILL Suncoast Ship Model Society will hold its annual ship model display from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Weeki Wachee Senior Citizens Center located at the corner of Toucan Trail and Susan Drive. The display will feature ships dating from the 18th century to modern times and will include those built in bottles, frigates, merchant ships, whalers, warships, river boats, tug boats and fishing schooners, some of which will be radio controlled. Modelers will be on hand to answer any questions the public might have, and there will be a display of ships under construction. The featured models this year will be several highly detailed paddle wheel drive river boats. Filipino Social Club To hold Valentine Candlelight Dinner
SPRING HILL Filipino American Social Club of Hernando County will hold a Valentine Candlelight Dinner-Dance from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the new VFW Post 10209 located at 14736 Edward Noll Drive, off Anderson Snow Road. Featured entertainment will be a performance by Jacksonville's top live band Rhythm in Motion. A full-course buffet dinner will include roast beef au jus, chicken marsala, rice pilaf, chef salad, vegetable medley, baked rolls, and coffee will be served. Winter Art Exhibit
will run until Feb. 12
BROOKSVILLE The Winter Art Exhibit at City Hall will run until Feb. 12 and features hand-painted porcelain by the Hernando Porcelain Artists, handmade quilts by the Hernando Quilters, ship models by the Suncoast Ship Model Society, photographs from the Spring Hill Camera Club and poetry by the members of Just Poets.
There will be paintings by various artists adorning the second floor.

Garden Club To Hold Gourmet Luncheon
BROOKSVILLE Brooksville Garden Club will hold a gourmet fundraiser luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at First Presbyterian Church, 250 Bell Ave. The program will be on the topic of flowers and Valentine's Day traditions. Heritage Day Fest
to be held Feb. 16
BROOKSVILLE The May-Springer Museum will host their Heritage Day Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Heritage Museum.There will bevenders, entertainment and a silent auction and the Museum will be open for tours.

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church to present fashion show Feb. 16
SPRING HILL St. Andrew's Thrift Shop will present its annual fashion show Saturday, Feb. 16, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 2301 Deltona Blvd. A luncheon will be served at noon, followed by the fashion show. "Love is in the Air" will be the theme of the event, and the clothing and most of the models will be from Kit 'n Kaboodle the thrift shop. Clothes will be available for sale following the show. Fort Cooper Days
to be held in March
Fort Cooper Days will be held at Fort Cooper State Park, 3100 S. Old Floral City Road Inverness on Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16. The event is a re-enactment of the second Seminole War skirmishes that took place during the construction of the fort in April 1836.
Re-enactment battles will be held twice daily, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. both days and there will be Military and Seminole encampments, period arts and crafts, Living History exhibits, entertainment, food and refreshments.
Admission is $ 5 per adult, $ 1 per child 17- to 6-years-old, under 6 years are free.
