Nobleton Community Church Ladies Aide will host a lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, in the Fellowship Hall of the church located on Sentinel Street in Nobleton. The menu will include soup, sandwiches, dessert, coffee and tea. A donation will be accepted.
Ethnic Club

State Clubs
Suncoast Maryland, Delaware and Virginia Club will meet at noon Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Niko's Restaurant, 6818 U.S. 19, north of Main Street, Port Richey. The club meets the first Wednesday of every month September through May, and any former resident of the states of Maryland, Delaware or Virginia is invited to join. Illinois Club of Spring Hill will meet at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at Forest Oaks Lutheran Church, 8555 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. The program will be presented by David Evangelista. The object of the club is to promote fellowship, social and fraternal activities for former residents of Illinois. In addition to monthly meetings, activities include eating out at a local restaurant each month and group travel opportunities. Annual dues are $12 per person. Workshop

United Way of Hernando County will host a "Financial Stability" workshop from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Career Central located at 7631 Forest Oaks Blvd., off U.S. 19, Spring Hill. Guest speakers from Career Central. Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Florida, and SunTrust Bank will be featured. A brief one-on-one consultation with financial advisers and a question-and-answer session with local community leaders will also be featured. Botanical

Spring Hill Garden Club's plant nursery will be closed to the public until Jan. 5, 2009. The Nature Coast Botanical Gardens will continue to be open during daylight hours featuring decorated holiday trees at the gardens located at 1489 Parker Ave., off Spring Hill Drive, just east of U.S. 19, Spring Hill. Seniors Programs

Mid Florida Community Services provides nutritious meals year-round to seniors age 60 and over. Seniors are welcome to visit any one of its four dining sites within the county. In addition, the Meals on Wheels program provides nutritious lunches five days a week to seniors who are homebound. The daily contact by the program's volunteers ensures a visit by someone who provides companionship, while checking on the person's health and well being. Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is seeking volunteers for its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program which aids in the preparation of income taxes for lower income individuals and families. Numerous volunteer opportunities are available, and the program will match your skills to the needs of the community. Arts/Crafts

Nature Coast Decorative Artists meets the first Saturday of each month. On Jan. 3, members will hold a "White Elephant Sale" and "Soup 'n sides" cook-off. Chapter meetings are held at 9 a.m. the first Saturday of each month at the Weeki Wachee Senior Citizens Club, 3357 Susan Drive, Spring Hill.; and several workshops are held throughout the year. Monthly projects are designed for all skill levels with an array of mediums and surfaces. A brief meeting, skill building demo and monthly project are featured. The artists are affiliated with The Society of Decorative Painters. At its monthly meetings, the artists collaborate on philanthropic projects as well as projects to improve their painting skills. Hernando County Fine Arts Council (HCFAC) is conducting its annual Friends of the Arts membership campaign. Anyone interested in promoting the arts may join at the following levels: student, $10; individual, $20; family, $30; art groups, $75; and advocate, $100. Members will receive a card which can be used for discounts at participating businesses and a monthly newsletter of the upcoming events around the county. Those who contribute $100 or more will receive a signed reproduction of artwork of a member of the Spring Hill Art League. All donations are tax deductible. Contributions will help support the annual art, craft and music festival "Art in the Park," monthly Bandshell Bash concerts, annual Taste of Jazz Festival, Hernando Culture Live TV show, grants to local arts organizations and the new HCFAC program "Artists in Residence" program, in which local artists share their skills with students in Hernando County public school classes. Community Outreach

Humane Society of the Nature Coast will conduct a new program that provides specific breed rescue groups an opportunity to feature their available pets from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the first and third Saturday of each month at the animal care center located at 7224 Mobley Road, corner of Wiscon and Mobley roads, Brooksville. The outreach is to benefit the homeless pets in the community by partnering with other rescue groups. The Humane Society welcomes any specific breed rescue groups that would like to participate in the upcoming Animal Rescue Appreciation Days. American Legion Post 99 and Love Your Neighbor, the group that feeds the homeless and needy, hosts a Third Saturday Flea Market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the American Legion, 208 East Fort Dade Ave, in downtown Brooksville. Clothing, household items, furniture and toys are featured. Funds raised will benefit Love Your Neighbor's outreach to the less fortunate and American Legion service projects. Fulfilling God's Purpose Church holds a free food giveaway from noon to 2 p.m. the first and third Saturday of each month at the church located at 18709 U.S. 41, Spring Hill. Two forms of I.D. are required.

Music/Dance

Rising Sun Cafe will hold a "Geezer Jam" from 6 to 9:30 p.m. the first Saturday of each month at the Cafe located at 10 South Main St. in downtown Brooksville. Seasoned "geezer" musicians from all areas of the county will gather to perform alongside one another in the remodeled 1890's era building. Music will range from Gospel to Pop, Rock to Blues. Military/Veterans

VFW Post 10209 will hold a flea market from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. the first Saturday of the month at the Post located at 14937 Edward R. Noll Drive, off Anderson Snow Road, Spring Hill. Inside and outside tables will be available for rental, and vendors can set up at 6 a.m. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be available for purchase throughout the day. In addition, the Post offers live entertainment from 8 to 11 p.m. Fridays in the Canteen of the Post. Admission is free of charge. The kitchen is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday through Thursday; and from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays. Karaoke with Rusty will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays in the Canteen. Sales/Flea Markets

SPCA Thrift Shop, 9075 Grant St., Brooksville, is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Housewares, books, games, toys and clothing for the entire family are featured. All clothes are $5 a bag. All proceeds from the thrift shop benefit the care and upkeep of the animals at the shelter. Donations are welcome and can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursdays or Fridays, but large furniture or appliances cannot be accepted. To reach the SPCA shelter and thrift shop, take Sunshine Grove Road (off State Road 50) to Taylor Street, then turn left onto Grant Street. Daystar Lifecenter Thrift Store, 7120 Hope Hill Road, off State Road 50, Brooksville, is open from 8:30 a.m. to noon Fridays and Saturdays. Clothing, crafts, furniture, housewares, books, small appliances, electrical items and Christmas decorations are offered. The store is located one-quarter mile behind St. Anthony Catholic Church. Karen's Kit 'n Kaboodle (St. Andrew's Thrift Shop), 2301 Deltona Blvd., Spring Hill, is now open from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The boutique-style shop features a $5 bag sale the second Tuesday of every month. Donations are appreciated and can be left in the shop during hours of operation or in the drop-off bin after hours. Jericho Road Ministries has a thrift store located at 16479 Wiscon Road, Brooksville, and in the Sunrise Plaza at 31170 Cortez Blvd., Ridge Manor, and also has an expanded book department at its thrift store located at 15319 Cortez Blvd. (State Road 50), Brooksville. All stores are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Clothing for adults and children, household items, furniture, kitchenware, toys, as well as numerous specialty items are available for sale. The thrift stores were established for the purpose of supporting the Jericho Road Men's Rescue Mission Shelter located at 1090 Mondon Hill Road in Brooksville. Donations are welcome and can be brought to the Wiscon Road thrift store during business hours or larger items can be picked up daily. For information or to schedule a pick-up, call 352-797-9009.

Habitat for Humanity Thrift Store, 19450 Cortez Blvd., in the Brooksville Square Shopping Center, Brooksville, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Clothing for adults and children, furniture, household items, kitchenware, books and a holiday room are featured. Donations are welcome and can be delivered to the thrift store during business hours. Larger items can be picked up Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Volunteers are needed to work in the thrift store or on construction. Habitat established the thrift store to support the construction of decent and affordable Habitat houses for low-income eligible individuals who are willing to partner in the building of someone else's home and their home. Seniors Activities

Senior Citizens Club of Hernando County offers the following activities at the hall located at 7925 Rhanbuoy Road, Spring Hill: card games are held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Monday and Thursday.
