State Clubs

Wisconsin Club will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at the Spring Hill Branch Library, 9220 Spring Hill Drive. Due to a change in hours at the library, the club will meet at this new time and day of the week. Also, the club's social dinner will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at the new Texas Roadhouse restaurant located at 12935 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville. Suncoast Maryland, Delaware and Virginia Club will meet at noon Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Niko's Restaurant, 6818 U.S. 19, north of Main Street, Port Richey. Hernando Beach Club holds an "open house" Friday night dinner at the club located at 3145 Flamingo Blvd., Hernando Beach. Workshops

United Way of Hernando County will host a "Financial Stability" workshop from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Career Central located at 7631 Forest Oaks Blvd., off U.S. 19, Spring Hill. Guest speakers from Career Central. Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Florida, and SunTrust Bank will be featured. A brief one-on-one consultation with financial advisers and a question-and-answer session with local community leaders will also be featured. Botanical

Spring Hill Garden Club's plant nursery is closed to the public and is set to reopen on Jan. 5, 2009. The Nature Coast Botanical Gardens will continue to be open during daylight hours featuring decorated holiday trees at the gardens located at 1489 Parker Ave., off Spring Hill Drive, just east of U.S. 19, Spring Hill. Military/Veterans

VFW Post 10209 has resumed bingo every Tuesday at the Post located at 14736 Edward R. Noll Drive, off Anderson Snow Road, Spring Hill. Doors open at 5:45 p.m., and games begin at 6 p.m. The kitchen will be open, and it's a smoke free building. Also, the Post holds karaoke from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays in the Canteen. Bucket of beer special will be featured. The public is welcome. Also, the Post will feature live entertainment from 8 to 11 p.m. Fridays in the Canteen. Admission is free of charge. The kitchen is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday through Monday; and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

In addition, a flea market will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. the first Saturday of the month at the Post. Inside and outside tables will be available for rental, and vendors can set up at 6 a.m. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be available for purchase throughout the day. The public is welcome. Dance/Music

Radio Club

Spring Hill Amateur Radio Club meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of every month at Oak Hill Hospital, Building A, Cafeteria Room 2, located at 11375 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill. Anyone interested in Ham Radio is welcome to attend. Testing for an FCC Ham Radio license is conducted at 6:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at the same location. The Radio Club operates a 2-meter repeater on 146.805 MHz (no tone) and conducts a SKYWARN Weather Net at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and a Club net at 8 p.m. Tuesdays, except meeting nights. Youth Activities

Grace Lutheran Church is offering a Toddler Power Hour for 2-3 year olds with an adult at 10 a.m. Tuesdays; and a Mommy & Me class for 0-18 months to play and interact at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, at the church located at 411 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill. Fraternal

Hernando County Shrine Club meets at 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month at the Shrine Club located at 13400 Montour St., off Sunshine Grove Road, Brooksville. A monthly social (dinner and entertainment) is held at 6:30 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month. Aripeka Elks Lodge 2520 serves dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. every Tuesday at the Lodge located at 9135 Denton Ave., Hudson. Baked chicken, liver (cooked to order) and onions, spaghetti and a chef's special will be offered. The cost of dinner will range from $6.50 to $8. Seniors Activities

Senior Citizens Club of Hernando County offers the following activities at the hall located at 7925 Rhanbuoy Road, Spring Hill: card games are held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Monday and Thursday. Group road trips such as Biloxi, Sterling and Hard Rock plus cruises are periodically arranged for members and their guests. Club membership is $15 annually. Sales/Flea Markets

SPCA Thrift Shop, 9075 Grant St., adjacent to the shelter, Brooksville, is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Housewares, books, games, toys and clothing for the entire family are featured. All clothes are $5 a bag. All proceeds from the thrift shop benefit the care and upkeep of the animals at the shelter. Donations are welcome and can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursdays or Fridays, but large furniture or appliances cannot be accepted. To reach the SPCA shelter and thrift shop, take Sunshine Grove Road (off State Road 50) to Taylor Street, then make a left onto Grant Street. Daystar Lifecenter Thrift Store, 7120 Hope Hill Road, off State Road 50, Brooksville, is open from 8:30 a.m. to noon Fridays and Saturdays. Clothing, crafts, furniture, housewares, books, small appliances, electrical items and Christmas decorations are offered. The store is located one-quarter mile behind St. Anthony Catholic Church. Karen's Kit 'n Kaboodle (St. Andrew's Thrift Shop), 2301 Deltona Blvd., Spring Hill, is open from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The boutique-style shop features a $5 bag sale the second Tuesday of every month. Donations are appreciated and can be left in the shop during hours of operation or in the drop-off bin after hours. Jericho Road Ministries has a thrift store located at 16479 Wiscon Road, Brooksville, and in the Sunrise Plaza at 31170 Cortez Blvd., Ridge Manor, and also has an expanded book department at its thrift store located at 15319 Cortez Blvd. (State Road 50), Brooksville. All stores are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Clothing for adults and children, household items, furniture, kitchenware, toys, as well as numerous specialty items are available for sale. The thrift stores were established for the purpose of supporting the Jericho Road Men's Rescue Mission Shelter located at 1090 Mondon Hill Road in Brooksville. Donations are welcome and can be brought to the Wiscon Road thrift store during business hours or larger items can be picked up daily. For information or to schedule a pick-up, call 352-797-9009.

Habitat for Humanity Thrift Store, 19450 Cortez Blvd., in the Brooksville Square Shopping Center, Brooksville, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Clothing for adults and children, furniture, household items, kitchenware, books and a holiday room are featured. Donations are welcome and can be delivered to the thrift store during business hours. Larger items can be picked up Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Volunteers are needed to work in the thrift store or on construction. Habitat established the thrift store to support the construction of decent and affordable Habitat houses for low-income eligible individuals who are willing to partner in the building of someone else's home and their home. Seniors Programs

Mid Florida Community Services provides nutritious meals year-round to seniors age 60 and over. Seniors are welcome to visit any one of its four dining sites within the county. In addition, the Meals on Wheels program provides nutritious lunches five days a week to seniors who are homebound. The daily contact by the program's volunteers ensures a visit by someone who provides companionship, while checking on the person's health and well being. Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is seeking volunteers for its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program which aids in the preparation of income taxes for lower income individuals and families. Numerous volunteer opportunities are available, and the program will match your skills to the needs of the community.
