Baseball Bat Attack Leaves Fractured Skull

BROOKSVILLE - A baseball bat attack that left the victim briefly unconscious has resulted in two arrests.
The injuries were sustained after a fight on the 6100 block of Casson Street around 4 a.m. Thursday. Investigators say the victim drove away from that fight, but the suspects followed him home and knocked on his door.
The victim immediately struck one of the suspects, Jonathan Sachok, in the face and the two grappled on the ground, a report states. When the victim was pinned on the ground, Sachok kicked him in the face, according to a report. The victim continued to fight with the suspects until he was struck on the side of the head with a baseball bat, knocking him unconscious, a report states.
He has since regained consciousness, but remains in critical condition with a fractured skull, a report states. Sachok, 18, of Crystal Springs, is charged with battery; Barry Brayton, 20, of 6159 Casson St., is charged with aggravated battery. Both were arrested Thursday.
Potted Plant Is No Petunia
BROOKSVILLE - Police arrested a Brooksville man during a traffic stop Friday after they reportedly found a potted marijuana plant beneath his seat.
David Wayne Potts II, 18, of 704 W. Fort Dade Ave., was charged with cultivation of marijuana.
Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Rape
BROOKSVILLE - Deputies arrested a man on suspicion of rape after his alleged victim came forward Dec. 5.
She told a detective that the incident occurred in 2006 at a Brooksville campground and provided a graphic video recording of the episode as evidence, an affidavit states.
Jeffrey Maggio, 53, was subsequently arrested and charged with sexual battery.
Two Facing Multiple Drug Charges
SPRING HILL - Two people face multiple drug charges after undercover deputies searched their home and reportedly seized 2.8 ounces of marijuana.
A series of alleged drug sales with a confidential informant led investigators to serve Friday's search warrant at 8291 Pebble St.
Arrested in connection with the raid is a 16-year-old boy and John Conrad, 37, who is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and drug paraphernalia.
