KISSIMMEE - Spring Hill Wrestling Club member Joshua Herrera is a National Champion after capturing the 90-pound weight class on at the 2008 Rocky Mountain Nationals (Florida Games of Rome) held Dec. 6 at the Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee.
Tampa Bay Lightning Reindeer Run
TAMPA – The 4th annual Tampa Bay Lightning Reindeer Run and Family Holiday Festival comes to the St. Pete Times Forum beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13.
The Reindeer Run, presented by University Community Health, features a 5K (USATF certified, Champion Chip timed), and a 1-mile Fun Run and kids' races.
The Lightning's Dave Andreychuk will be available to sign autographs for anyone who brings an unwrapped toy to benefit Metropolitan Ministries. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Lightning Foundation and Epilepsy Charities.
Participants will each receive a T-shirt and 5K awards will be given to the top three males and females, top Masters male and female and standard five-year age groups from 8-under through 75+.
The first 500 kids to register will receive two complimentary tickets to the Ringling Bros. Circus and the first 150 kids to register in the kids races will receive Crocs shoes courtesy of Crocs.
Check in and late registration will take place from 6-7:30 a.m., with the 5K set for 8 a.m. The 1-mile Fun Run/Walk will start at 9 a.m., followed by the Kids Races at 9:30 a.m.
The Family Holiday Festival will run from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the St. Pete Times Forum.
Parking is available for $5 in the South Regional City Garage, adjacent to the St. Pete Times Forum.
Packet pick-up and late registration is available on Friday, Dec. 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the St. Pete Times Forum plaza.
Winter Basketball Camp
BROOKSVILLE – A Winter Basketball Camp, for children ages 8-14, will be held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Dec. 29-30 at the Kennedy Park (outdoor courts).
The cost is $20 per player and includes basketball instructions, shooting skills and afternoon scrimmage games by Marion Jones.
All participants must come into Hernando County Recreation office, 205 E. Fort Dade Ave. to register. The first 30 kids will receive a camp T-shirt. Registration deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 24.
Burdick claims hole-in-one prize: a Harley
BROOKSVILLE - Rick Burdick was the winner of a Harley Davidson, sponsored by Harley Davidson of Crystal River, at the Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce Annual Holiday Golf Tournament held Dec. 4 at The Dunes Golf Club.
The motorcycle was one of three hole-in-one prizes that were sponsored at the golf tournament.
Club Hernando volleyball tryouts
BROOKSVILLE - Club Hernando will have volleyball evaluations/tryouts from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the Parrott Middle School gymnasium. Any girl between the ages of 7-18 interested in playing Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) volleyball should attend with all completed paperwork.

Fragakis, Feng win at Orange Lake
KISSIMMEE - Brian Fragakis and Cindy Feng took home first place honors in the boys and girls 16-18 division in the Florida Junior Tour (FJT) event Dec. 6-7 at the Legends Course at Orange Lake Resort in Kissimmee.
Brian Fragakis, of Royal Palm Beach, followed his T-17th finish in the first FJT Major last week with his first career FJT victory.
Recording an even-par round of 72 he held a one-stroke lead going into the second round.
Facing cool temperatures and swirly 15 MPH winds, Fragakis played steadily, recording another even-par round of 72 for a 144 tournament total and a five-stroke victory.
NCT's Anthony Rule, of Spring Hill, also competed posting a 92-89—181.

Toys for Tots Golf Tourney
SPRING HILL – The Toys for Tots Golf Tournament is set for an 8 a.m. start featuring a four-person best ball format on Sunday, Dec. 14, at the Seven Hills Golfers Club, 10599 Fairchild Road.
Cost is $55 per person. Lunch immediately follows the tourney.
There will also be prizes for hole-in-one winners and door prizes.
Individual entrants are welcome and will be teamed by the tournament committee, on a first-come, first-serve basis.

SH Wrestling Club seeks additional members
SPRING HILL – The Spring Hill Wrestling Club is the place to learn the fundamentals of wrestling.
Practices will begin Dec. 2 and run through March, 2009 in the wrestling room at Springstead High School. Grades K-3 will practice from 6–7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays; Grades 4-8 from 7-8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Learn to scuba
SPRING HILL - Learn to scuba at the Hernando County Family YMCA. Classes began Jan. 6 and run Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-9:30 p.m.
This course includes six class and pool sessions for ages 12 and older in good physical health and comfortable in and under the water.
There will also be classes from 8:30 a.m-4:30 p.m. for ages 10 and older, plus open water dives on Thursday and Friday in the Gulf of Mexico or Rainbow River at $20 per day.
Upon completion of the classes persons will be certified as Open Water Scuba Diver, recognized worldwide.
The cost is $120 for YMCA members and $140 for non-members, plus $60 for use of scuba equipment.
Personal equipment, mask, fins and snorkel are not included, but can be purchased at a discount from instructors: Jack Farrell at 727-861-3483 or 800-633-1633 and Mark Butler at 352-214-1171, who are YMCA, PADI and NAUI instructors.

Bulldogs will hold tryouts
BROOKSVILLE – The Brooksville Bulldogs, an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) 10-under traveling baseball team, is seeking 3-4 committed players for its upcoming spring season. Child cannot turn 11-years-old before May 1, 2009.
The Brooksville Bulldogs will be holding tryouts from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ernie Wever Youth Park on Saturday, Dec. 13 and Saturday, Dec. 20 for their up coming spring season.
