RIDGE MANOR - No charges will be filed against the driver of a Mack truck that smashed into the Interstate 75 overpass on Tuesday afternoon.
Likewise, the Florida Highway Patrol found no criminal fault with the company that William J. Lindsay, 56, was driving for, W. Clyde Daniel Construction of Brooksville.
"(We) couldn't prove one way or the other that someone was negligent," said FHP Sgt. Steve Gaskins, spokesman.
The construction company will likely be on the hook, however, for the $500,000 construction tab, according to the Florida Department of Transportation. Repairs are expected to last three weeks.
Both lanes of State Road 50 are open, but only one southbound lane on the interstate. FDOT officials had originally planned to open an alternate lane, but light traffic put that plan on hold. Instead, one lane will continue to be used in the interest of completing the work sooner, according to FDOT.
