BROOKSVILLE - Three trends continued Monday night at Shark Tank Stadium.
Despite plummeting temperatures, visiting Land O'Lakes-Sunlake High remained unbeaten this winter by scoring three goals within the matches' initial 20 minutes to trim spunky Nature Coast Technical, 4-1.
The visiting Seahawks, who solved NCT twice last winter (7-3, 3-1), rode a pair of first-half goals by freshman David Danahy to climb to 4-0-1 overall, and remain unbeaten in Class 4A, District 8 (3-0-1).
Besides Danahy's third and fourth goals of the season, freshman Alex Piruzza notched his fifth goal of the year and added a pair of assists.
Rounding out the scoring, sophomore Jordan Landry chipped in the second half's only score for his 11th of the season. Landry and Calvin Restreppo added assist for the Seahawks.
With the loss, NCT remained winless at 0-5-0 overall (0-4-0 in 4A-8 action).
In a fairly evenly played match, the Sharks outshot Sunlake, 13-11, as NCT's lone goal belonged to freshman Eric MacLean.
MacLean's goal on assist from Lachlan Cameron spoiling Sunlake goalkeeper Adrian Krupka's attempt at his third shutout of the season. Krupka finished with seven saves while NCT's GK Stephen Misener countered with five saves.
"I think we're a better finishing team than we showed tonight," explained Sunlake skipper Sam Koleduk. "The play was pretty even tonight. I thought the five days off was definitely a factor. Still a district win is a district win."
Danahy gave credit to the entire team.
"I know I struck the ball well twice (on his two goals)," said the 15-year-old Landry, "I thought we played good. But our mindset coming in was to get it over with quickly. But give them (NCT) credit, they played well."
"We pulled it together better in the second half," admitted NCT Head Coach Patrick O'Grady. "We were just a little off on our shots. In the first half, you could tell we hadn't played since Nov. 24. It took us the whole first half to get our game legs back."
