BROOKSVILLE - A grand jury has formally indicted a man accused of killing his 81-year-old mother by beating her head with a remote control and holding her underwater in the family pool.

Kevin Simmons, 57, was charged Wednesday with premeditated first-degree murder; no bond had been set for his release from the county jail.

Early in the morning of Aug. 3, Simmons beat his mother inside his home at 1327 Altoona Ave. with a remote control and large cordless phone, according to court records.

He next rolled her out of a bedroom, down the hall and into the backyard swimming pool, where he held under water with his legs for "an extended period of time," a search warrant states.

Simmons, who reportedly confessed to the killing, is scheduled for an arraignment on Sept. 2.

Suspected Drug Dealers Arrested At Home

BROOKSVILLE Two men suspected of dealing drugs were arrested Wednesday by undercover detectives.

A search warrant served at 721 Hazel Ave. in Brooksville yielded crack cocaine, several types of prescription pills and three rounds for a handgun, a report shows.

Arrested on six different drug charges, possession of ammunition by a felon and maintaining a public nuisance are Bertha Hart, 36, and Jeremy Wynn, 20, both of the Hazel Avenue address.
