News For Sale

I was amazed at the article on today's front page concerning the sale of Ginny-Brown Waite's house. I was wondering how much it cost her to have such a great advertisement on the front page. I have some friends who have also been trying to sell their home for quite a while now. I know they would love to have it advertised on your front page. It was quite a descriptive ad.

I do hope your editors have a good explanation about this obvious showing of favoritism. An ad like that would have cost the average person serious money.

I think we all could have understood Mrs. Brown-Waite's predicament with out a complete description of the home, yard and barn. Of course, I could be all wrong about this and maybe she did pay to have the ad placed there.

I am an independent voter who happens to like Ginny Brown-Waite but I also feel fair is fair.

What's good for one is good for the other.

Editor's note: News is news. No one can buy that space at any price. It's news if your congresswoman is selling her home in the heat of an election. Having details of the home of one of the most recognizable public officials in our county makes the story even more interesting. The story also showed that even those in positions of authority and power are suffering from the housing crisis.

It's Time To Act!

I have sat through several Hernando County Commission meetings for the last few years. I have seen commissioners make public statements about how they stood on issues coming before the board, only to change their vote at the last minute.

I have also seen commissioners in no way vote in accordance with their campaign promises.

I implore every Hernando County resident who is not registered to vote and is 18 years of age, a citizen of the United States of America and a legal resident of Florida and of the county where you intend to vote to get registered by 5 p.m. Oct. 6 to vote in the General Election, and I ask all registered voters to do two things:

1.) Go on the Internet and look at everything you can find on Gwinnett County, Ga. Forty-five years ago this county was a mirror image of Hernando County today. Now the county has to tax property owners for storm water run-off.

2.) Step back and look at the voting record of the commissioner in your district available on the county's Web site, and determine if since being elected that official has voted to preserve or destroy your way of life.

I know that Realtors, developers and builders have owned this county for years, but do we really want to be Gwinnett County and pave everything?

I am not condemning every commissioner up for re-election, at least one has almost always voted according to campaign and public statements.

Please spend some time to make a real decision for whom you want to vote for. Ask serious, pointed questions when given the chance. Never believe that your vote does not mean anything, or just vote how someone else told you. Remember, how you vote will affect you grandchildren's children.

Re: "Pick A President On Record" by Adon Taft in the Aug. 12 edition of Hernando Today.

There is more to picking a president than just by his/her record. Like employers, we should also select one who lives by our values, has nothing to hide and is willing to serve us in any legal capacity we see fit.

When we say jump, the candidate or president should ask how high. Their medical records should also be an open book because ours is as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sen. Barack Obama was a chosen one. You know, the person who was groomed since birth to grow up outside the box so that he could become president one day and then lower the boom.

I was always under the impression that when a Muslim really chooses not be one any more, they are considered infidels and therefore targeted for death as well.

Now, if they are doing Osama's bidding, that would be a different story.

But, I know, I shouldn't believe all that I read and hear because, after all, the media is nothing more than a propaganda machine.
