Nazdar,

The Masaryktown Activities Committee is sponsoring a pre-Labor Day Benefit Day on Sunday, Aug. 31, for Lea's Prayers and Postage, which collects the packages sent to our troops overseas.

It will start at 3 p.m. at the Masaryktown Community Center on Lincoln Avenue.

Food, soda and beer will be available for a donation of $5 per person. A Chinese auction will also be held.

The Bellamy Brothers cannot attend due to a previous engagement, but they kindly donated some auction items, such as an autographed cowboy shirt, autographed CDs and photos.

They also donated 100 CDs to be sent to our troops overseas. U.S. Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite will try to attend.

There will be nonstop entertainment all afternoon, with two disc jockeys, with George Marshall, the "Salt Water Rocking Cowboy," local entertainer, Brian Chytka, 12-year-old Steffanie Renae, voted "Entertainer of the Year 2008" at Pigeon Forge, Tenn., singer Matthew Romeo, a couple "So Fine," will sing songs from the decades '1960s to '90s and our own Morgin Ciarcia.

Come out and enjoy a full day of entertainment to herald our fall season and support our troops as well.

Last Tuesday at the Harmony House Family Restaurant, Pete and Mariana Mandreanu held a memorial dinner for Mariana's father, Charles Vance, who died 40 years ago.

The European belief in the Greek Orthodox religion is the soul leaves on the 40th day. So after services at their church, family and friends came to the Harmony House, where Pete and Mariana hosted the memorial dinner. They also would like to advise that they will be closed Aug. 5-21, re-opening on Aug. 22. They will, I hope, enjoy a working vacation; take some time to rest.

This year Garey Wallace is celebrating his 35th year as "The Unstopper." Coming from Baltimore, Md., where he unstopped for 30 years (Ace plumbing guy).Garey has been a resident of South Masaryktown for the past five years; and if your drains or sewers get plugged, he'll unplug you. Call him at 352-797-8009 or 727-857-0375. But if Garey doesn't unplug you, you don't have to pay.

Alan Lawson of Dunnellon came by last week to visit mom Joy Weld with prepared turkey in hand. Momma Joy made some side dishes, and they enjoyed Thanksgiving in July.

The Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Ministry Food Pantry on U.S. 41 could use more items for its pantry, as lately they have been getting more recipients. Everything is needed, including peanut butter, jelly, powdered milk, rice, cereals, canned veggies, canned meats, canned fruits, soups-canned or dry mix, etc. Anything that you could think they could use, not perishable. Remember, they are still collecting for the troops - baby wipes, foot powder, cotton T-shirts, beef jerkies, DVDs, toilet tissue, drink mixes, soup, candies, phone cards, books, soaps, lotions, flea collars are a BIG HIT,razors, shampoos, hand creams, deodorants, insect repellents, brushes and combs.

Anything that we would normally use here at home, they would really appreciate over there. Let's keep them as comfortable as we can until they are "home."
