Last year in the Dixie League World Series, the Hernando County Debs (ages 16-18) lost their opening game of the tournament only to come back in the loser's bracket to make the tourney finals.
Again on Saturday in Alexandria, La. in the first-round game of the Debs Dixie League Softball World Series, Hernando County dropped their opening game.
The host team, Alexandria National, scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh to defeat Hernando 7-6 and force the local team to again crawl back through the loser's bracket.
"We were in this situation last year," said Debs Head Coach Paul Sinwelski. "We came back all the way to be the runner-up, so they know they can do this."

Early deficit

On Saturday, Hernando fell behind early as Kayla Tobey hit an RBI triple and Callie Philen had a two-run homer in the first inning to give Louisiana a 4-0 lead.
Hernando scored a run in the bottom of the first on a bases-loaded walk, 4-1.
In the fourth, Hernando received a two-run homer from Destinee Mormando (who finished 3-for-3), and an RBI single from Brittany Parker to make it 6-4 for Alexandria.
In the sixth, Hernando tied it with a two-out, two-run single from Meredith Hanshaw before Alexandria's Alexis Bachman drove in Philen with a run-scoring single in the seventh to win the game.
Hernando County now faces the possibility of playing two games on Sunday.
They first must defeat North Carolina at noon. If they win that game, they have to come back at 6 p.m. and play again.
Coach Sinwelski also said that the problems the entire tournament is having with the heat and humidity in Alexandria concerns him.
"I talked with a tournament officials and they had 16 people taken out of games because of the heat," explained Sinwelski. "Now, we face the possibility of having to play two games Sunday and it worries me."
The weather forecast for Alexandria calls for temperatures to reach 102 degrees during the day with a heat index of 115 degrees.
"I was also talking to one of the paramedics and they told us we have to get our kids drinking a lot of fluids starting 24 hours before we play the game," added Sinwelski. "I've got 12 kids on the roster but we're going to have to be careful. I don't want anything bad to happen to them."
