'It's Great to be King!'

SPRING HILL - During the middle of summer in Florida, a person can think of a lot of other things to do besides playing flag football.
With the heat and humidity, it would be easy to see that the Hernando County Recreation Department would have trouble fielding enough teams.
But that was not the case at Veterans Memorial Park in Spring Hill when the best teams of the summer flag football league played in its championship finals.
In the "A" Division, Hooters beat the Warriors 34-21 in the title game with Mike Garofano throwing and catching a touchdown each.
Garofano is the defensive coordinator for Springstead High School and has played in the Hernando County Recreation Department League for a number of years.
The key to his success is that he plays with neighbors who he has known for years.
"I've been playing football with these guys since I was a little kid," Garofano said. "We have a street near my house and we get out there and play football all the time. I guess that helps us in this because we know everything each other will do."
Garofano also said that time is sort of catching up with him.
"It's getting kind of hard to keep doing this," he said with a smile. "I'm not as young as I us to be and it's taking longer and longer to get over the aches and pains. But we keep winning."
In the "C" Division, Weeki Wachee defeated Top Line, in the semifinal, 7-0, while in the title game; the Brooksville Warriors beat Weeki Wachee, 32-26.
In the "B" Division, the Pit Bulls beat Grandma's Boys in one semifinal, 27-18, while Huntington Learning Center defeated Mighty Wings in the other semifinal, 21-15.
Then in the final, Huntington took the division title when they solved the Pit Bulls, 34-21.
