This past Thursday we were once again subjected to another painful column by Frances Earl, who has shown that she doesn't know what she is talking about.
As she once again fawns all over Barack Obama and his visit to Europe, she said that some of these countries he visited "have long ceased to be friends."
Oh, really Ms. Earl, and what countries are these? I did not know that any of the countries you mentioned - Afghanistan, Iraq, Germany, France, Israel or England - were no longer friends of ours. In fact, our relations with many of these countries could not be better, especially in countries like Germany, France and Italy where they now have conservative governments.
Ms. Earl shows her lack of knowledge of international affairs when she talks about Colombia, calling it a violent country in which she implies it is solely responsible for the drugs coming out of that country. Of course, she leaves out the fact that those responsible for the drugs are terrorist groups. Under the leadership of President Alvaro Uribe, the country has been stabilized and the amount of drugs coming out of Columbia has dropped considerably. If we follow Ms. Earl's line of thinking, we're not supposed to be friends with Colombia, that we should try to make friends with someone like Hugo Chavez.
As for her continuous support for Obama, what can one say about that? She thinks somehow he will make the world a safer place if he is elected president. I've got news for her: If he's elected president, nothing is going to change. There will still be people out there who will hate us and will seek to kill us and no amount of talking nice is going to change that.
As the old saying goes, "Nice guys finish last." And the last thing we need in the White House is a nice guy.
