Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee issued a new videotape where he wished Americans a "Merry Christmas." He even mentioned that this was the time of the birth of Jesus Christ.
Wow! What gall! During a time when the majority of Americans who are Christians and celebrate Christmas, he actually mentioned God and Jesus. The left and the media are apoplectic.
How dare he bring religion into a national election. During the past several years, we have stood by while religion or the mention of it has been taboo. We continue to preach that there is a separation of church and state, but nowhere in the Constitution can anyone find that.
When we were attacked by the Japanese in 1941, President Roosevelt gave a fantastic speech and that we as a nation would win and at its end he said something like "So help us God." That portion of his speech is missing from the monument with him. The left could not stand it for God to be mentioned.
When one reads the writings of our founding fathers, they all mention a supreme being or God. Read our Constitution. There is no doubt that the founders believed. I am convinced that if they were alive today, they would be shocked at what they see and do not see in our current political leaders.
As a country we have been blessed with an abundance of natural resources and individual innovativeness. As a nation, we are a babe in the woods, yet we are the greatest country in the history of the world. How could we surpass those countries that have been around for thousands of years?
Our Constitution stands out as the greatest document in all of history. Men who had an understanding about a greater being than us wrote it. They knew that governments had the potential of seizing more and more power, and so they added the first 10 amendments — The Bill of Rights. These amendments restricted the power of government. The First Amendment guarantees the freedom of religion, press and speech. Does that sound like people who did not believe in a supreme being?
It is fascinating that when a natural disaster hits, the people invoke God for assistance. When many family disasters hit, the same is true. I know from my own experiences in combat and during the last year. I should have died on numerous occasions, and yet I survived. God was asked to intercede with countless prayers from family and friends.
Our country has been blessed over the years, and I do not take offense from a politician who talks about God and Jesus on one of the holiest feasts in our country. Our founding fathers would be happy to joining in with him in wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.
