Rogers' Christmas House

Village Lifts Spirits

A few days ago I made a seasonal visit to Rogers' Christmas House Village. There were many shoppers on that Sunday afternoon, but nowhere near as many as other times.

The five houses have their individual themes, each one with various and unique items of interest. It's easy to find something for anyone, including yourself. I don't typically make the rounds of Christmas shopping with intentions to purchase something for myself. It's a selfish act that taints the Spirit of the Holiday season.

This year was different. Although I bought presents for friends, neighbors and relatives as I have done for previous Christmases, my eyes were tantalized by out-of-season items that will accent my home year round. I gave in to my own desires because I feared they would be gone before my next visit. I've committed to use a cash gift that my Aunt usually sends. She will be pleased on her next visit to my home.

It's a shame that Rogers' has a cash flow problem and may face bankruptcy in the near future. Hopefully, this holiday season will offer a bit of a reprieve, but the economy in general suggests otherwise. A visit to the privately owned business can uplift the spirits from the moment you enter the fairy-tale atmosphere. The customer associates have a cheerful demeanor that lightens the soul. It's obvious that other shoppers relish the same feeling of joy.

Since they are open year round, I plan to make another visit soon. There's a certain day in January when I can celebrate my day of birth. I already know what's on my birthday list; thank you very much Rogers' Christmas House.
