A Revamped Red Room

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

When new owners took over the Red Room Salon 18 months ago, they knew they wanted to expand.

There have been a few personnel changes, not to mention a tough economy. But the long-term goals shared by Lara Tucker and Debbie Walsh have begun to take shape.

They recently hired three new stylists and an airbrush makeup artist, all of whom will help add more clientele and diversify the business.

The two most recent hires specialize in hair extensions.

"I asked around," said stylist Lauran Hill when asked how she learned about the salon. "I spent a couple weeks here and asked people who did their hair ... Everyone said the Red Room."

Hill recently moved to the area with her husband. She still has several "high-powered" clients in Colorado who rely on her for their extensions. She has flown hundreds of miles to see them and they have promised to fly to see her in the future.

"Mine stay in for four and a half months," she said. "You can blow dry your hair and still be fine."

Angela Weedo was hired at roughly the same time as Hill. The 20-year-old is a Spring Hill native and Central High School graduate.

Her specialty is micro beading - a strand-by-strand method of hair extensions. She knew the Red Room would be the right fit for her. She is familiar with the preferred hair products there.

"I came to the salon because I knew it was a Redken salon," she said. "I went to a Redken school."

Walsh and Tucker have owned the Red Room since February 2007. The appointment-only salon is located at 13019 Spring Hill Drive.

Clients are offered beverages during their stay. A flat-screen television sits on the wall of the main room.

Tucker and Walsh opened the business with the philosophy of offering an intimate and friendly setting for their guests.

"We know more about our clients than their psychiatrists," Tucker said soon after she and Walsh took over last year. "If they trust us with their hair, they will trust us with anything."
